F#@K New Year's Resolutions!

I don't know about you but 2016 whupped my ass. So much so that I cancelled my New Year's Eve plans to celebrate, opting to have a three–way Skype with two of my favourite people (in our pyjamas) visualizing our year ahead, getting amped for 2017 in a clear and intentional way.

Now visualizing, that is something I can get behind!

The difference being that resolutions are an invitation to fail. According to Forbes, only 8% of people actually achieve their resolution goals. That doesn't seem like a successful stat to me.

Resolutions are fixed (not fluid), black or white, yes or no, there's no leeway. And as we all know life is FULL of grey areas, full of exceptions and in–betweens. It's a slippery slope towards feeling like a failure when you've only got two options, good or bad. We've all experienced the first little slip, "oh I'll just do it this once and get right back on track tomorrow"... and we know where it leads.

Whereas visualizing allows for fluidity, for divine intervention, for magic!

As you may or may not know, I'm all about magic!

So rather than setting New Year's Resolutions, why not dig deep into your heart's desires, pull out all your dreams for the year ahead, and map them out with a vision board. Create your year from a place of empowerment, from a place of positivity rather than a resolution which usually feels more like a limitation or a restriction.

Vision boards are hands down one of my favourite manifesting tools!

  • First, gather some old magazines, a large piece of bristle board or sturdy paper, a pair of scissors, and some glue.

  • Create a space where you can spread yourself out and make a mess.

  • Get comfy, close your eyes and look inward. Reflect on the past year, what were some of the highlights? What would you like to amplify in your life? What would you like to see/feel/experience more of in 2017? Write it down.

  • Now think about what you are aching for, what is it that you are tired of living without? Write it down.

  • Be sure to include all the different areas of your life in your visioning! Physical, emotional, and spiritual health, career, family, and relationships.

  • Now start finding images that line up with what you've written down or images that inspire you (even if they aren't things you wrote down). Cut them out.

  • Once you feel you've compiled enough images, start laying them out on your board. Collage your heart out, let your creativity run wild!

  • Then glue those images down!

  • When you're all done, hang that board up somewhere where you'll be able to see it at least once a day.

A daily reminder of your intentions for the year is an easy way to stay in emotional alignment with your trajectory, keeping you on track with your dreams.

I've often made the mistake of tucking my vision board away somewhere and completely forgetting about it. It was no surprise that most of those dreams didn't manifest. The real magic happens when you consistently tune in to what you're striving for. Consistency being the key here.

If vision boarding isn't for you, write a list of your intentions and read it to yourself every day when you wake up. This will have a similar impact.

The New Year is the perfect time to get clear on where you want to be heading, it is up to you to be the director of your life. Or as William Ernest Henley famously said, "Be the master of your fate and the captain of your soul".
